"into the wild" theme

Page ix, Authors noteIn April 1992, a young man from a well-to-do East Coast family hitchhiked to Alaska and walked alone into the wilderness north of Mt. McKinley. Four months later his decomposed body was found by a party of moose hunters.


This paragraph explains the theme of independence and the pursuit of happiness. The main character Alex is searching for the one place where he can find peace for himself and overcome the ultimate challenge. He believed that a challenge without great risk is not considered a challenge. By taking on a challenge like he did, he felt he would find his place and become who he wanted to be.
